What exactly is a Pierogi and where did it come from?

The Pierogi (a pocket in dough, filled with vegetables, fruit or cheese) comes to us direct from Poland. In concept it is similar in some way to the Chinese Potsticker, or the Italian Ravioli. This is however where the similarity ends. Mareva's has taken the basic Pierogi out of the dark ages and into the new millenium. Mareva's Restaurant in Chicago, has established a loyal clientele who will travel across states to taste a Mareva's Pierogi.

The Pierogi comes filled with spinach, potato, cheese, sauerkraut, mushroom, vegetable and blueberries. They are versatile and can be served boiled, sauteed, microwaved or deep fried. Pierogi can be served as an appetizer, an entree or a dessert (sweet cheese or seasonal fruit). They can be eaten plain, with your favorite sauce, or with sour cream.

Parents will love Pierogi also. They make an excellent choice for a healthy, after school snack alternative to junk food.

Mareva's old world gourmet pierogi are prepared with all natural ingredients in our kitchens in Chicago, IL.
